Voted by Golf Digest as one of Sydney’s best, this 18-hole championship course is nestled beside the magnificent Ku-ring-gai National Park only 30 minutes north of the city.

Opening in 1994, Terrey Hills was designed by internationally-notable course architect and professional golfer, Graham Marsh. It was the first new course to be constructed in Sydney for twenty years, fashioning a barren quarry and its surrounding bushland into a world-class golfing experience. Plenty of space and natural surroundings give the sense this course is much older than its years suggest.

Terrey Hills is a testing championship venue, and now hosts many Golf NSW and Australian Amateur events earning the respect of golfing bodies around Australia.

A private club in every sense of the word – Terrey Hills boasts a limited membership of 750 who’re lucky enough to access its secluded and stunning bushland setting. It’s hard to believe it’s only a stone’s throw from the city centre – a truly special course for a global city such as Sydney.

Nestled on New South Wales’ Pacific coastline, Magenta Shores combines spectacular scenery with strategic play.

Located within the five-star Pullman Magenta Shores Resort, 90 minutes from Sydney and an hour from Newcastle, Magenta Shores is the only private golf course on New South Wales’ Central Coast.

With the Pacific Ocean on one side, Tuggerah Lakes on the other and Wyrrabalong National Park to the north, every hole offers stunning ocean and bushland views.

Opened in 2006, it was the spectacular location that inspired the Ross Watson designed course.

‘I have been waiting for a site like this since I first began designing golf courses 30 odd years ago,’ Watson said.

‘With its rolling landscape, coastal dunes and tranquil National Park, it was the ideal “canvas” on which to create a truly sensational course – one which will appeal to golfers of all levels.’

Built on a deep sand base and shaped in the spirit of the famous Scottish Links courses, golfers will need to use their imagination and every club in the bag to excel at Magenta Shores.

Commonwealth’s origins can be traced to a redoubtable group of 11 golfing enthusiasts who in May 1915 formed the Murrumbeena Golf Club and later aspired to a home on the Melbourne Sandbelt.

Designed by club professional Sam Bennett, the first 12 holes opened early in 1921 and the full 18 were in play by 1924. In 1926, Charles Lane, the Club Captain, travelled abroad to study golf architecture and met British designer Harry Colt, a former partner of Alister MacKenzie.
Photography by David Scaletti
Lane brought what he learned home and put the finishing touches on Commonwealth’s greens and bunkers. He did much of the work himself, often being seen stripped to the waist and digging out bunkers.

Among the big events played on the course are the 1967 Australian Open, which local player Peter Thomson won by seven shots, and the 2010 and 2011 Women’s Australian Open, both won by Yani Tseng of Taiwan.

The Club has also been included in Tom Doak’s list of 31 courses ‘among the first I would take a good friend to see’. He said that…

‘The genius of Commonwealth is its adherence to one simple rule – that each green should be oriented or tilted in such a way that it cradles an approach from one side of the fairway and shoulders away shots from the incorrect line of approach’

Huntingdale Golf Club, located in the heart of Melbourne’s world-famous Sandbelt region, is one of Australia’s premier championship golf courses. Consistently rated as one of the best conditioned courses in the country, Huntingdale is also the Sandbelt’s youngest.

Rising to fame in 1979 with the inaugural hosting of the Australian Masters, Huntingdale has emerged as one of the most recognisable golf courses in Australia. Since 1979, Huntingdale has played host to some of the most famous names in golf, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo and world number one, Tiger Woods.

In 2008 Huntingdale celebrated its 30th consecutive year of hosting the Australian Masters and is justifiably recognised as the ‘Home of the Australian Masters’.

Huntingdale’s golf affiliations go back to 1896, when Surrey Hills Golf Club was established. The Club prospered until 1914, when it disbanded on the outbreak of the First World War. By 1941, after moving from the Surrey Hills site, to Canterbury Road in Box Hill then Doncaster Road, Doncaster, club members elected to move into the Sandbelt region, and onto land previously used for coursing by the Melbourne Hunt Club. When the course re-opened in 1941, it took the name Huntingdale Golf Club.
