The Grange Golf Club

The Grange Golf Club

One of South Australia’s premier sporting venues, The Grange Golf Club combines two internationally rated 18 hole golf courses: The West and The East.

Design Features

The West is a classic golf course with tall pine trees, tight greens and perfectly placed bunkers. First opened in 1926, and redesigned in 2007 by Mike Clayton Golf Designs, it is laid out on excellent golfing country. Its routing is punctuated by wide corridors perfectly suited for strategic golf holes, with Callitris and Monteray Pines and expansive native grass areas giving it the intangible feel of a wonderful place to play golf. Its interesting set of green complexes encourages players to be accurate with their irons. The bunkering is organised to catch poor shots as well as the slightly misplayed good shot, with the undulation of the surrounding ground presenting many stimulating options with the short shots around the
greens.

The East Course, originally designed by Vern Morcom and opened in 1967, was recently redeveloped by Greg Norman Golf Course Design and reopened in 2012. Its strategic design is routed over slightly flatter ground on the front nine and transitions into some of the best golfing land on the property on the back nine. Many tee shots ask players to make a decision on the line they wish to take – challenging bunkers and native areas off the tee will offer the premium line into greens that are set seamlessly into surrounding undulations.

Having rebuilt both of its championship courses within the last eight years, this first-class sandbelt golf course will no doubt mature into one of Australia’s top rated golf courses.

Course Highlight

In addition to its two championship courses, The Grange boasts immaculate practice and training facilities, the five-star Gym @ Grange and a clubhouse with newly renovated locker rooms.

The Grange played host to the 2016 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, hailed by Golf Australia as one of the best ever. Grange has also hosted a number of major tournaments including the West Lakes Classic won by Greg Norman and Wayne Grady, the prestigious World Amateur Teams Championships in 2008 comprising the Eisenhower Trophy for Men and the Espirito Santo Trophy for Ladies, the Australian Amateur Championships and Australian Junior Amateur Championships.

Golfing Great Greg Norman said: ‘Just the name “The Grange Golf Club” conjures up the most pleasurable and exciting memories; the birthplace of my professional career where I won the West Lakes Classic, my first professional victory. The camaraderie is second to none. It is a club with all the finest Australian traditions of golf and everything that is associated with this wonderful sport we all love. I’m sure everyone who visits this great club will experience the same pleasure.’
